Volkswagen opens orders for the ID. AURA T6 on its China-developed CEA architecture

FAW-Volkswagen opened blind pre-orders for the ID. AURA T6 on July 30, CarNewsChina reported. Neither Volkswagen Group China nor the joint venture published a release on the opening, and the account below rests on trade reporting rather than a company statement.

The vehicle is a battery-electric SUV built on CEA, the China Electronic Architecture that Volkswagen developed with XPeng under the technical partnership the two companies signed in 2023. It is not the first CEA model. Volkswagen Group China said in January that series production had started on the launch vehicle, the ID. UNYX 07, which went on sale in China in May. CEA uses a central computer paired with zonal controllers, and the reporting says the vehicle supports full-vehicle over-the-air updates.

On silicon, the reports name a 4-nanometer cockpit chip rated at roughly 20 TOPS , and Horizon Robotics’ Journey 6H, rated at 420 TOPS, for driver assistance. The assisted-driving stack is Carizon, the venture between Volkswagen’s Cariad software unit and Horizon Robotics, and the vehicle carries lidar. Price and full configuration were not announced.

The significance is architectural rather than commercial. Volkswagen has spent years and several billion euros trying to build a competitive software platform in-house, and CEA represents the opposite bet: a China-specific architecture co-engineered with a local rival, shipped on a local development cycle.
